Impacting Global Communities Through Art: An Interview with Cassandra Puga
Cassandra Puga
Cassandra has over 15 years experience as a small business entrepreneur. In her time as the owner of a boutique in Los Angeles, she combed the world for self-taught and outsider artists of all sorts to feature alongside designer jewelry, clothes, and home goods.
She first traveled to East Africa in beginning of 2020 with Give Love, a nonprofit that trains and equips communities for ecological sanitation. Through this work, she met countless people striving to make a difference in their own communities; people eager to learn, eager to teach, but also often lacking resources to see all their plans come to life.
She founded La Lona to give a boost to these leaders and connect them with the strategies, resources and people to help them turn those plans into reality. Her love of outsider art remains strong, and many of La Lona’s initiatives are focused in the arts, including socially conscious murals, children’s art programs, and projects that feature reused and recycled materials.
